Abstract
A new species of the leafhopper genus Macropsis LEWIS 1834 from Central Europe (Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia) is described. It is similar to M. cerea and yellowish specimens of M. infuscata. It is easily distinguishable from all other species by the combination of following characters: yellowish-brown coloration, 4 to 5 black spots on face (thyridial and discoidal spots, often also frontal spot), two dark brown transverse wing bands – very distinct in most females, but may be dissolved (mainly in males) into single spots or lack almost entirely. The species is univoltine, hibernates in egg stage, and lives monophagously on Salix fragilis (crack willow) in Central European lowlands (up to about 450 m a.s.l.) in river floodplains, along streams and lake shores. Adults have been found from early June until mid August.
